Replacing Deprecated Sitecore SXA AddThis with AddToAny

Hello, Sitecore enthusiasts out there!👋😊 Welcome to another insightful post. With the recent deprecation of the AddThis plugin in Sitecore SXA, many are seeking alternatives, and if you're one of them, you're in the right place. In this blog, I'll guide you on how to seamlessly replace the deprecated AddThis plugin with the robust AddToAny plugin. We recently implemented this very transition in one of our Sitecore SXA projects. So, you'll be getting hands-on insights and practical steps to make this switch effortlessly. Let's get started!

Steps to Implement AddToAny in Sitecore SXA:

  1. Visit AddToAny's Official Site: Go to AddToAny's official site.
  2. Select Your Preferred Social Services: Once on the site, you can choose which social services you'd like to feature on your component. This customization ensures that your users have access to their preferred sharing platforms.

  3. Retrieve the Script: After making your selections, AddToAny will generate a script for the share buttons. Make sure to copy this code as you'll need it for the integration.

  4. Navigate to Sitecore CMS: Head over to your Sitecore CMS and follow this path: sitecore/content/yoursite/yoursite/Presentation/Rendering Variants/Article/Default/Template. In this example, the template is Scriban. Here, you'll replace the previous version of the code with the new one. This includes updating tags for the share button and embedding the AddToAny script.

  5. Testing the AddToAny Plugin Before Going Live: After integrating AddToAny into Sitecore SXA, it's vital to test it. Ensure the AddToAny script isn't blocked by your network or firewall. This step ensures users can share content seamlessly without any disruptions.

Conclusion

With the deprecation of the AddThis plugin, it's essential to find a reliable alternative. AddToAny offers a versatile solution with a wide range of customization options. By following the steps above, you can seamlessly integrate AddToAny into your Sitecore SXA website, ensuring your users have a smooth sharing experience. Stay tuned for more such updates, and until then, happy Sitecore learning to all! 😊👋
